After months of speculation about who Donald Trump would select for his running mate, Trump finally made the announcement today via this Tweet:
I am pleased to announce that I have chosen Governor Mike Pence as my Vice Presidential running mate. News conference tomorrow at 11:00 A.M.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 15, 2016
The initial announcement was met with a mix of “Who’s Mike Pence” to “Newt would have been better”.
Now that we’ve had some time to process, we have to say the move makes a lot of sense. And that makes sense. Trump is noting if not very smart. And he knows how to build an expert team of advisors. If we knew one thing, it’s that Trump would make the RIGHT choice in his selection.
Here’s what Trump probably had in the “positives” column when looking at Gov. Mike Pence:
🇺🇸 Great at helping him pass legislation, knows the system.
🇺🇸 Boring. And that’s a good thing. No scandals. Not exciting. Not going to steal the limelight from Trump.
🇺🇸 On the topic of “boring”, he provides the perfect contract to Trump. Boring = stability. Boring = trusted.
🇺🇸 Has several bridges to Washington, DC and knows how to use them.
🇺🇸 Appeals to the RNC and “Republicans” who aren’t yet on the Trump Train.
🇺🇸 Great at fundraising. Great with donors.
🇺🇸 Stops the flood of hate from “conservatives” who aren’t Trump fans. Or at least deals them a major blow.
🇺🇸 Did we say boring?
🇺🇸 Able to play a great PR role.
🇺🇸 Wholesome image.
🇺🇸 Will attend all the fundraisers and free up Trump to do what Trump does best.
🇺🇸 COO to Trump’s CEO.
🇺🇸 Leaves others to fit better roles. Let’s face it, Guiliani, Christie, Sessions and even Newt can fill other roles much better. And be more directly effective in them.
So once again, Trump appears to have made the brilliant move.
