It’s a shame how much tumult has occurred at Fox News over the course of the past year. The network has had significant staff turnover, as some of its most dynamic personalities such as Andrea Tantaros and the disgraced Megyn Kelly have either been fired or resigned.
The ascent to power of change agent Donald Trump has also created some divisions within the network, as reporters such as Shepard Smith have tried to make names for themselves in the most cynical way possible as MSNBC ready “anti-Trump” reporters. However, one Fox News host just got fired that nobody would have expected.
Judge Andrew Napolitano served a valuable role on Fox News as its resident legal expert together with Judge Jeanine Pirro. His scholarly wisdom was especially valuable in the current climate, to make viewers informed about the legal attacks on Trump’s executive orders.
However, some executives at Fox News thought he crossed the line when he waded into the discussion about the wiretapping allegations against Barack Obama. Stated Napolitano in a segment on the network, “Obama didn’t use the NSA, he didn’t use the CIA, he didn’t use the FBI, and he didn’t use the Department of Justice. He used GCHQ. What the heck is GCHQ? That’s the initials for the British spying agency. By bypassing all American intelligence services, Obama would have access to what he wanted with no Obama administration fingerprints.”
The British spying agency pushed back against Andrew’s claims, saying, “Recent allegations made by media commentator Judge Andrew Napolitano about CGHQ being asked to conduct ‘wire tapping’ against the then-President Elect are nonsense.” In a nasty move, Shep Smith smeared Napolitano, saying on his show, “Fox News knows of no evidence of any kind that the now-president of the United States was surveilled at any time, in any way.” Do you think Napolitano deserved to be fired?
