Former third-party presidential candidate and CIA operative, Evan McMullin voiced his support of rogue intelligence agents who leak classified information on is personal Twitter account and CNN, claiming that President Donald Trump “presents a threat to the country.”
Trump attacked the Federal Bureau of Investigation and National Security Agency, claiming that they are engaged in “Russia” style political operations by allowing leaks.
McMullin responded in a series of tweets: By oath, intelligence officials’ first duty is to “defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.. So, the real scandal isn’t that the President of the United States of America appears to have been co-opted by America’s greatest adversary?
McMullin echoed his views during an interview on CNN: “I’ll tell you what their concerns are. There concerns are that Donald Trump presents a threat to the country because of his — what they see as his relationship with Vladimir Putin and the relationship of his team to other Russian intelligence officers.”
As an example, McMullin pointed to a New York Times report that suggests that Trump aides have had contact with Russian intelligence but at the same time offers “no evidence” that the “Trump campaign was colluding with the Russians on the hacking or other efforts to influence the election.”
