A writer took to the pages of the Washington Post to blame President-elect Donald Trump for stealing her desire to date. In an op-ed posted Monday, writer Stephanie Land of Missoula, Montana, said that her love life had been going well over the last few months and that she had been on the verge of a new relationship. “But, two weeks later, the election happened,” she wrote. “Once it was clear that Donald Trump would be president instead of Hillary Clinton, I felt sick to my stomach.” She also wrote that in the midst of the emotions she was experiencing, she realized she couldn’t reach out to her new partner. “He was too new, too unfamiliar,” Land wrote. She added that she has “lost the desire to attempt the courtship phase.”
“I got really, really scared of life, of everyday life,” she said. “I began to wonder what it would be like to, perhaps, move away somewhere, to get away from this country and the latest in a long line of its bad choices. But, then I realized – this is my country; I was born in it, and I wasn’t about to tuck my tail between my legs and let my children see me running away because times got hard. That’s not the American way and that’s not the example I wanted to set for them. Instead, I decided to push on, although I’ve given up all hope when it comes to finding that special someone who could be a good support for me and a good father figure for my children at the same time.”
Asked to elaborate on her newfound, disillusioned worldview in an interview with CJXT Radio out of Missoula, the writer argued that she “still has some life left in her,” as well as that “my life isn’t over just because I can’t find a man that suits me completely.” “There are other ways to live,” Land argued. “But, the number one thing that’s really getting on my nerves right now is that fact that, because Donald Trump’s won, no normal, liberal people want to reproduce anymore. I mean, I don’t consider my life to be over just because of the fact that I have two kids. I think I have plenty more love to give and I would like it very much if I’d be able to have some more kids. But, unfortunately, Donald Trump has made that impossible for me.”
“Liberal men in particular, they’re so depressed and will-less right now that it’s become impossible to get them to think about family and the future,” she said. “They’re flat-out depressed and scared of what will happen in the future with Trump as president that the farthest they’re willing to go is just sex. They will literally tell you straight up and in your face, they just want sex and that’s it. And, you know, that’s all understandable and everything, but I want to have a bigger family. And I’m clearly not going to be able to get that, because it’s like Donald Trump has single-handedly castrated all liberal men in this country by winning the election. Seriously, I feel like I’m in a horror movie right now, and I’m willing to bet millions of other liberal women are feeling the same way at this point,” she concluded.
