Even some of Donald Trump’s closest advisers have distanced themselves from the Republican presidential nominee’s recent criticism of Gold Star parents Khizr and Ghazala Khan. While some Trump surrogates have made media appearances in an attempt to rationalize the brash billionaire’s rhetoric, others continue to denounce any attack on the parents of a soldier killed in action.
The Khans, whose son died in battle more than a decade ago, were featured guests during last week’s Democratic National Convention. After Khizr Khan made some disparaging remarks about Trump during an address, Trump retaliated with a series of negative statements about the Muslim couple.
For his part, Trump said this week he has “no regrets” regarding the way he handled the situation. Plenty of others in the GOP, however, believe he needs to apologize to the couple.
